In most cases, a bed is the most dominant piece of furniture in a bedroom. In small spaces, this effect can be undesireable. That is why someone smart came up with a low profile bed frame.
The term ‘low profile bed frame’ can actually have two meanings. One is when the bed is rather simplistic in terms of design. The other meaning, a more logical one, refers to a bed frame that sits only a few inches above the ground. If you don’t particularly favor climbing onto a bed, this might be the solution for you. An even more important feature of a low profile bed frame is that it does not dominate the room that much.
When looking for low profile beds, metal frames tend to be the most obvious choice. They are sparse in design and plenty of models are low enough to be called ‘low profile’. However, unless the price is the main factor, the rather simplistic design may not be exactly what you are looking for.
On the other hand, if you are willing to spend more on a bed, the possibilities become quite broad. You can choose among different materials, with wood being the most popular. There are also many color variations which can also contribute to the desired effect of having the bed not stand out too much, when chosen properly.
If you are willing to buy a low profile bed frame, one thing to consider is the size of mattress. The majority of low profile beds are made platform style and are suited for a single mattress only. If you wish to have a box spring, be prepared to perfom a more thorough search which take up significantly more time.
If you are thinking of having a storage space under your bed then low profile bed frames are not what you should get. Although it is possible to find beds with storage space that can still be considered low profile, you really should decide if the main feature you are looking for in a bed is its low height, or the ability to put things underneath the frame.
